I was using blender for sometime, and I got really frustrated with the interface.. it was so messy! So, I ended up giving in and plunged myself into Maya!

…and I am amazed! I thought it was so hard to use, but after struggling with Blender for so long, it just seemed so much more.. friendlier? I’m so glad I tried this software, I am very impressed and almost obsessed – and all this from just a few hours of getting to know the interface!

I decided to make for my first attempt; a starbucks style mug (- as I have decided to make my project diet and nutrition based, after watching the Aardman NHS adverts)

My very first attempt in Maya

– At first it was quite jaggered and awkward looking, but the more little tools I found, the smoother it became..

Tweaking the first attempt

I learned more about adjusting the levels on the smooth menu and using Edge Loops to fine tune the appearance. At first, when I had applied the smooth mesh on my mug, it was very rounded and uncharacteristic of a Starbucks mug. So I decided I wanted to get it right and more realistic – so I used to Edge Loops to sort of contain the roundedness to just the top and bottom rims of the mug. I also tweaked the handle to make it alot smoother – especially the parts that join to the main body.

I’m off to make a teacup now!
